Vibration White Finger
Many workers and particularly those working in the construction industry are exposed to vibrating tools which can cause hand arm vibration syndrome, otherwise known as vibration white finger.
This syndrome generally causes symptoms in fingers, hands and arms. Often workers complain of a tingling sensation in their fingers and in the cold weather they find that the tips of their fingers turn white.
Vibration white finger is caused by the repeated and frequent use of handheld vibrating tools. Such tools can include pneumatic drills, concrete breakers and chainsaws.
Your employer is under a duty to monitor the amount of exposure to vibrating tools on a daily basis and to ensure that it does not exceed the maximum exposure levels.
If you have been diagnosed as suffering from this syndrome or believe that you may be suffering from such a condition, you should contact your Union representative as soon as possible. You should also contact your GP who can arrange for you to undergo various tests to determine whether or not the cause of your symptoms is vibration exposure.
There are strict time limits for pursuing a claim for such an injury and you should therefore seek legal advice as soon as you believe that your symptoms may be work related. If you are suffering from such symptoms and would like legal advice or know of anyone else who is experiencing such symptoms, please contact us on our freephone number for free legal advice or complete the enquiry form.
